Herrenreben" means " the vines of the Noblemen" because this part of the vineyard formerly belonged to the Noblemen of Ribeaupierre. Its granite soil is stony, sandy and very high in silica and produces a full-bodied Pinot Gris rich in delicate aromas.
Surface area : 61 ares (1.5 acres)
Location : hillsides at the entrance of a valley with an elevation from 350 to 400 m with a south / south-west exposure to the sun
Soil : a light sandy soil made of very decomposed granite with a fractured granitic basement
Age of the vines : 15 years on average
Production : 1 200 bottles (100 cases)
Main analytic characteristics :
- alcohol = 12°9
- residual sugar = 15.3 g/l
- pH =3.5
Tasting notes :
- A nice straw yellow with gold reflections.
- An intense well-developed and complex nose of over-ripening which develops many perfumes : honey, overripe seed fruits ( pear, quince) , as well as more subtle notes of white flowers.
- On the palate, after a silky entry, it’s a blossoming of complex aromas supported by a good body perfectly balanced by a nice mature acidity which adds length and brings character .
The balance of this rich and complex Pinot Gris is so good that it is a perfect gastronomic wine !
